I can identify word families.

Objective: To identify word families. (RF.K.2)

Materials: recycled items such as paper, plastic lids, empty drink boxes, four baskets or bins, index cards, sharpie

Procedures: Label four baskets with word families such as, _eck, _est, _ash, and _ack. On each recycled item, write a cvc word from the word families. (Examples: deck, neck, peck, check, best, west, chest, test, trash, mash, clash, stash, shack, pack, track, stack.) Spread the “trash” around the room or out in the yard. Your child will find an item, read the word and place it in the corresponding word family basket.

Conclusion: Have your child read each word again and write five dictated words on lined paper.
