Reading the book, Cam, probably made your child realize it can get pretty hot in Mexico! Today’s writing prompt is about ways to stay cool.
Around the World – Lesson 21
“I can write a story.”
Objective: To use inventive writing to write a story. (W.K.1)
Materials: journal, pencil, crayons
Procedures: Talk about the different ways Cam used to keep cool. For a writing prompt, ask your child to write about her favorite way to stay cool. Encourage your child to use spaces between words, punctuation at the end of the sentence and to use any letter-sounds that she hears in words. Write the real words under her sentence. Then she will illustrate her story. Keep the journal in a safe place for her next story.
Conclusion: Have your child read her story to you again. Talk about the cute illustrations and how much you loved her good idea of how to stay cool.
