Here is a fun way to teach ou, ow and oy using “circus tickets.”

At the Circus – Lesson 1

I can identify the sounds of diphthongs:  ou, ow, and oy.

Objective:

To identify diphthongs: ou, ow, and oy. (RF.K.2)

Materials: three circus tents, diphthong cards, tickets

Procedures: Explain to your child the sound of each diphthong. Draw or print out circus tent clipart and write a diphthong on each. Write words containing these sounds on tickets. Your child will read each word and match the ticket to the correct tent.

Conclusion: Have your child read the words again. Then she can count the tickets to see which tent had the most
