Tactile writing in shaving cream is a fun way to practice new sight words.

At the Beach – Lesson 2

I can read sight words. (play, this)

Objective: To identify sight words: play, this. (RF.K.3)

Materials: sight word cards, shaving cream, smooth surface

Procedures: Tell your child he is going to learn two new sight words (play, this). Display the sight word cards. Have your child read each sight word and trace them with his finger. Place a glob of shaving cream on a table or tray. You can add a drop of blue food coloring to tint the shaving cream to look like sea foam. Your child will spread out the shaving cream and practice writing new sight words in the shaving cream, while saying them.

Conclusion: Ask your child to read and to write the two sight words again.
