Tactile writing is very beneficial in learning sight words. Using birdseed is a fun and unique way to do tactile writing. And it goes along nicely with our Blue Jay book!

In the Meadow – Lesson 23

I can read sight words: now, find, know.

Objective: To read sight words: now, find, know (RF.K.3)

Materials: tray, grass seed, sight word cards

Procedures: Place a thin layer of grass seed on a tray. Tell your child she will learn three new sight words. Show her the sight word card “now”. Have her trace and name each letter and then she will say the word. Repeat with the next two words. Then have her copy each word several times in the grass seed as she says them.

Conclusion: Have your child use each of the three sight words in a sentence and then she will write the sentences.
