Arctic Adventures – Lesson 1

“I can identify d and the /d/ sound.”

Objective: To identify letter d and the /d/ sound. (RF.K.3)

Materials: d sandpaper card, large letter Dd, bingo dauber or dot stickers

Procedures: Display the letter d sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter d. The sound of d is /d/.” (Be careful to say only the /d/ sound without adding “uh” to it.) Model how letter d is formed. Have your child trace letter d on the sandpaper card using his index finger. While tracing, have your child repeat, “d says /d/, d says /d/.” Make a large letter Dd. Have your child use a bingo dauber or dot stickers to make dots on it.

Conclusion: Ask your child to identify letter d and the /d/ sound.
