To learn the sight word “stop”, your child will get to make a stop sign and use it for some physical activity. You are probably finding that sometimes the simplest things turn out to be the most fun!

Arctic Adventures – Lesson 13

“I can read the sight word, “stop”.”

Objective: To identify the sight word, stop. (RF.K.3)

Materials: Sight word card “stop”, red construction paper, scissors, white chalk, paint stick, tape

Procedures: Show your child the sight word card, stop. Have her identify and trace the letters. Draw a stop sign shape on red construction paper. Your child will cut out the shape and copy the word STOP on the sign. Tape a paint stick to the back of the sign.

Conclusion: Do various movements with your child such as hop, skip, dance, march, and so on. When you say “stop”, you both will stop and she will hold up her stop sign.
