Children love to play board games. Parents do, too! Here is a fun dogsled race game you can create to go along with the story, The Bad Dog. What a fun way to practice cvc words!

AA lesson 34

Arctic Adventures – Lesson 34

“I can read cvc words.”

Objective: To decode cvc words. (RF.K.2)

Materials: poster board, markers, clipart, scissors, glue, dice, game pieces (small plastic dogs, pebbles, buttons, etc.)

Procedures: Create a board game using a sheet of poster board and markers. Glue Arctic clipart to decorate. You and your child will have a dogsled race. Take turns rolling the die and reading the cvc words to see who reaches the finish line first!

Conclusion: Have your child point to each word on the game board and read them to you. Then go sled riding together if weather permits. Or enjoy some hot cocoa!
