Children love to play board games. Parents do, too! Here is a fun dogsled race game you can create to go along with the story, The Bad Dog. What a fun way to practice cvc words!
Arctic Adventures – Lesson 34
“I can read cvc words.”
Objective: To decode cvc words. (RF.K.2)
Materials: poster board, markers, clipart, scissors, glue, dice, game pieces (small plastic dogs, pebbles, buttons, etc.)
Procedures: Create a board game using a sheet of poster board and markers. Glue Arctic clipart to decorate. You and your child will have a dogsled race. Take turns rolling the die and reading the cvc words to see who reaches the finish line first!
Conclusion: Have your child point to each word on the game board and read them to you. Then go sled riding together if weather permits. Or enjoy some hot cocoa!
