Arctic Adventures – Lesson 4
“I can identify r and the /r/ sound.”
Objective: To identify letter r and the /r/ sound. (RF.K.3)
Materials: r sandpaper letter, raisins, paper plate
Procedures: Display the letter r sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter r. The sound of r is /r/.” (Be careful to say only the rrrrrrr sound without adding “uh” to it.) Model how r is formed. Have your child trace r on the sandpaper card using her index finger. While tracing, have your child repeat, “r says /r/, r says /r/.” Have your child form Rr with raisins on a paper plate.
Conclusion: Ask your child to identify letter r and the /r/ sound.
