aw lesson 14

What better way to review the letter sounds than to make “alphabet soup!” I found this plastic black pot at a dollar store around Halloween and thought it looked just like the pot in the story! (You can use it again later on for the wizard’s pot in Set 8, Medieval Magic)

Around the World – Lesson 14

“I can identify beginning letter sounds.”

Objective: To identify beginning letter sounds. (RF.K.3)

Materials: large pot (the black plastic cauldrons that are sold around Halloween look like Mat’s pot), plastic letters, picture cards, ladle, bowls

Procedures: Tell your child the two of you are going to make “alphabet soup”. Place letters t, b, c, m, a, s, h, f, p, o) around the big pot. Display a picture card. Your child will say the word, find the letter that it begins with and place it in the pot. Continue until all the letters are in the pot.

Conclusion: Have your child scoop out the letters with the ladle and put them in the bowls while identifying each letter. Then enjoy some real alphabet together for lunch!
