Children love to play with cars and trucks! So here is a cute lesson to go along with the book, Tom. It’s a fun activity for blending sounds to read cvc words.
Around the World – Lesson 18
“I can blend sounds to read words.”
Objective: To blend sounds to read cvc words. (RF.K.2)
Materials: letter cards, black paper, chalk, small car
Procedures: Use black construction paper and chalk to create a road. Line up the letters to form a cvc word. Your child will drive the car, stopping at each letter, to say the sound. Then she will go back to the beginning and “zoom” the car along quickly to read the word. Repeat with different words. This activity reinforces left to right progression necessary for reading.
Conclusion: Reverse rolls and your child can give you cvc words to read.
