Today your child will read the first book in Set 2 Around the World. This is a story about Sam who plans to visit his friends in far away places. You may want to use a world map to locate each place and talk about whether it is a continent, a country or a state. It’s a good way to integrate a little geography while learning to read!
Around the World – Lesson 3
“I can read The Map.”
Objective: To fluently read the story, The Map. (RF.K.4)
Materials: The Map (Set 2, Book 1)
Procedures: Discuss the cover of this book. Ask questions such as: What is the setting of this story? What is the boy pointing to? Why do you think he might be looking at a map? Turn to the inside front cover to read and discuss the vocabulary words. Then have your child read the book. Remember to ask questions about the illustrations, talk about the setting, characters, and plot, make predictions, point out details in the text, and so on.
