Barnyard Buddies – Lesson 5

I can make new words by changing one letter.

Objective: To make new words by changing one letter. (RF.K.2)

Materials: pig workmat, letter tiles, crayons

Procedures: Draw a large pig shape on paper with a row of three boxes in the middle. Ask your child to spell a word such as ‘pig’ by placing a plastic letter in each of the boxes. Then say, “Change pig to wig”. She will replace p with w. Next, ask her to change wig to wag. She will change the middle letter. Continue the game with other changes such as wag to bag, bag to bat, bat to hat, hat to hut, hut to rut, rut to rug, etc.

Conclusion: Your child may color or decorate the pig.
