To go along with Book 2, The Dog, your child can write about the family pet dog or make up a story about a dog.

Barnyard Buddies – Lesson 8
I can write about a dog.
Objective: To use inventive writing to write a story. (W.K.1)
Materials: journal, pencil, crayons
Procedures: Read short stories about dogs or talk about funny things your pet dog may have done. Ask your child to make up a story about a dog. Encourage her to use spaces between words, punctuation at the end of the sentence and to use letter-sounds that she hears in words. Write the real words under her sentence. Then she will illustrate her story.
Conclusion: Have your child read her story to you again. Talk about her cute illustrations and how her funny story made you laugh.
