Playing Bingo is a great way to practice decoding CVC words. And it’s a yummy follow-up lesson for Book 2, The Dog!

Barnyard Buddies – Lesson 9
I can read cvc words.
Objective: To fluently read cvc words. (RF.K.2)
Materials: bingo workmats, pencil, Scooby snacks.
Procedures: Create bingo workmats with 16 spaces. Say a cvc word to your child. Your child will write the word in any of the sections. You will do the same with your bingo card. Continue saying words until all of the sections are filled. Place the word cards in a pile. You and your child will take turns pulling a card and reading the word. Cover each word when it is called with a Scooby snack. When the player has four snacks in a row covered with bones (vertical or horizontal), shout, “bingo!” Remove the bones and play again!
Conclusion: Ask your child to read each cvc word again. Then enjoy eating the Scooby snacks!
