For this writing prompt, first let your child chew a piece of bubble gum. Then she will write sentences to describe gum.

I can write a describing sentence.
Objective: To use inventive writing to write a story. (W.K.2)
Materials: journal, pencil, crayons
Procedures: Talk about how Jill liked to blow bubbles with her gum but how she did not like when a bubble popped! Talk about describing words for gum such as: sticky, sweet, chewy, pink, etc. Ask her to write a sentence to describe gum. Encourage her to use spaces between words, punctuation at the end of the sentence and to use letter-sounds that she hears in words. Write the real words under her sentence. Then she will illustrate her story.
Conclusion: Have your child read her story to you again. Talk about her great illustrations and how much you enjoyed reading her story. Then have fun blowing bubbles together!
