Playing games makes learning sight words more enjoyable. “Pop” is always a favorite game to play.

At the Beach – Lesson 15

I can read sight words.

Objective: To read sight words. (RF.K.3)

Materials: 23 popsicle sticks, black and pink markers, small pail or cup

Procedures: With the black marker, write sight words on the edge of twenty popsicle sticks. With the pink marker, write the word “POP!”(from the story) on three popsicle sticks. Place the popsicle sticks in a small pail or cup with the words at the bottom so they do not show. You and your child will take turns pulling a stick and reading the word. If the word is a sight word, the player keeps the stick. If the word says “POP”, the player must put all of their sticks back in the cup. During the game, set a timer. When the timer goes off, the player with the most sticks wins the game.

Conclusion: Have your child read the sight words again. Then he will choose five sight words to write on lined paper.
