At the Beach – Lesson 19 – Decoding Sentences

Finding a message in a bottle can be very exciting. So why not create messages in a bottle for your child to read? Now that’s reading with joy!

At the Beach – Lesson 19

I can decode sentences.

Objective: To decode sentences. (RF.K.4)

Materials: sentence strips, marker, empty water bottles, gum band.

Procedures: Write decodable sentences on strips of paper. Roll each one up tightly and secure it with a gum band. Place each sentence in an empty water bottle. Tell your child that someone sent messages in a bottle out to sea. Your child will shake out a message, unroll it and read the message to you.

Conclusion: Your child will write messages in the bottle for you to read.
