Another resource you will need for teaching your child to read is a collection of small objects for beginning sound activities. Pictures work well, too, but using real objects is more meaningful and fun for children. A handy place to store the objects is in a set of small drawers. You can find them at Walmart or a hardware store. Label each drawer with an ABC sticker and begin looking for small toys and objects to put in the drawers. It was fun building my collection from vending machines, Barbie doll accessories and other small items such as a penny, button, birthday candle, ring, nail, etc. that you can probably find in your “junk” drawer at home!
