Digging Up Dinosaurs – Lesson 1
“I can identify letter y and the /y/ sound.”
Objective: To identify letter y and the /y/ sound. (RF.K.1,RF.K.3)
Materials: letter y sandpaper card, dish, yogurt)
Procedures: Display the letter y sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter y. The sound of y is /y/.” (Be careful to say only the /y/ sound without adding “uh” to it.) Model how y is formed. Have your child trace y on the sandpaper card using his index finger. While tracing, your child will repeat, “y says /y/, y says /y/.” Your child can practice writing Yy in yogurt on a dish.
Conclusion: Ask your child to identify letter Yy and the /y/ sound.
