In this lesson, your child will compare the sounds of our two new letters, y and z.
Digging Up Dinosaurs – Lesson 3
“I can sort pictures that begin with y and z.”
Objective: To review letters y and z and to sort pictures by their beginning sound. (RF.K.3)
Materials: letter cards (y, z) and picture cards (y, z).
Procedures: Place letter cards y and z on the table. Ask your child to identify each letter and to trace them with her index finger while saying the sound that each letter makes. Give your child a small basket of picture cards. Have her choose a card one at a time. If the picture begins with /y/, she will place it beside the y. If it begins with /z/, she will place it beside the z.
Conclusion: Have your child name the letters and the pictures in each row from left to right.
