Recycle those packing peanuts for your child to make letter Kk kabobs!
Digging Up Dinosaurs – Lesson 4
“I can identify letter k and the /k/ sound.”
Objective: To identify letter k and the /k/ sound. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)
Materials: letter k sandpaper card, packing peanuts, kabob skewers, marker, bowl
Procedures: Display the letter k sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter k. The sound of k is /k/.” (Be careful to say only the /k/ sound without adding “uh” to it.) Model how k is formed. Have your child trace k on the sandpaper card using his index finger. While tracing, your child will repeat, “k says /k/, k says /k/.” Write k’s and other letters on packing peanuts and place them in a bowl. Your child will place the k’s on the skewers to make “k kabobs!”
Conclusion: Ask your child to identify letter k and the /k/ sound. Then play kickball outdoors and enjoy real kabobs on the grill!
