Today’s journal entry is about what your child might see on a farm.

Down on the Farm – Lesson 4

I can write about things I see on the farm.

Objective: To use inventive writing to write a story. (W.K.1)

Materials: journal, pencil, crayons

Procedures: Refer back to the word web that you and your child created about a farm. Ask your child to write about things he might see if he visited a farm. Encourage him to use spaces between words, punctuation at the end of the sentence and to use letter-sounds that he hears in words. Write the real words under his sentence. Then he will illustrate his story.

Conclusion: Have your child read his story to you again. Talk about his nice illustrations and how his story makes you want to visit a farm. You may even want to plan a field trip together to a local farm.
