Decoding sentences randomly is good practice to build fluency. This lesson would be even more fun if farm animal toys were used instead of pictures!

Down on the Farm – Lesson 11

I can decode sentences.

Objective: To decode sentences. (RF.K.4)

Materials: animal cut-outs, sentence strips, marker

Procedures: Create animal cut-outs from construction paper or use animal clipart (hen, duck, hog, cat, dog, and chick.) Write decodable sentences from the story, Six Jobs, which go along with the animals. Your child will choose a sentence strip, read the sentence and match it to the corresponding animal.

Conclusion: Your child will read each sentence and choose two sentences to write on lined paper.
