Crossing a barnyard makes finding sight words lots of fun, especially when you get to go outside! This is a great way to combine fresh air, movement and reading skills!

Down on the Farm – Lesson 20
I can read sight words.
Objective: To read sight words. (RF.K.3)
Materials: sight word cards, hay, stuffed farm animal toys
Procedures: Spread small piles of hay outside in the yard. Place the stuffed animals randomly about the yard to represent a barn yard. Place the sight word cards on the opposite side of the yard. Say a sight word to your child. He will cross the “barnyard” without stepping on the hay or animals to find the word card and bring it back to you. Continue until all the words have been retrieved.
Conclusion: Have your child read the sight word cards to you again. Then he will help you gather the hay and the animals.
