Forest Fun – Lesson 15

“I can read sight words. (I, see, a)”

Objective: To identify sight words; I, see, a. (RF.K.3)

Materials: Sight word cards, cornmeal, tray.

Procedures: Explain to your child that some words are called sight words or high-frequency words. Some of the sight words are easy to decode but often they are not decodable. So it is best to learn these words from memory based upon how they look. Sight words appear frequently in printed materials. So in order to read fluently, these words should be practiced and memorized.  Using word cards, teach your child to memorize the sight words…I, see, a. Have your child copy the sight words in a tray of cornmeal while saying each word several times.

Conclusion: Your child will read the three sight words on the word cards.
