Forest Fun – Lesson 21
“I can name letter s and the /s/ sound.”
Objective: To identify letter s and the /s/ sound. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)
Materials: letter s sandpaper card, silly putty
Procedures: Display the letter s sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter s. The sound of s is /s/.” (Demonstrate how to put your teeth together and force air out to make the ssssss sound. Remind your child that letter s looks and sounds like a snake!) Model how letter s is formed. Have your child trace letter s on the sandpaper card using her index finger. While tracing, she will repeat, “s says /s/, s says /s/.” Give your child a container of silly putty to form snakes shaped like letter s.
Conclusion: Ask your child to identify letter s and the /s/ sound.
