Forest Fun – Lesson 22

        ” I can name letter h and the /h/ sound.”

Objective: To identify letter Hh and the /h/ sound. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)

Materials: letter h sandpaper card, marker, old magazine or a letter chart, highlighter

Procedures: Display the letter h sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter h. The sound of h is /h/.” (For a visual reminder of the /h/ sound, have your child hold up the palm of his hand close to his mouth and breathe out making the /h/ sound. Tell him he can feel his hot breath for /h/.) Model how letter h is formed. Have your child trace letter h on the sandpaper card using his index finger. While tracing, he will repeat, “h says /h/, h says /h/.” Give your child an old magazine (or a printed letter chart) and a highlighter. He will look for letter h and highlight them.

Conclusion: Ask your child to identify letter h and the /h/ sound.
