Forest Fun – Lesson 30

“I can identify beginning sounds.”

Objective: To identify beginning letter sounds. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)

Materials: small objects, toys, flashlight

Procedures: Place several objects around the room such as a penny, cookie, marker, toothbrush, apple, feather, heart shape, and a sock. Explain how bats are nocturnal. Give your child a flashlight and turn off the room lights. Tell your child to find an object that begins with /p/ using his flashlight and to bring it to you. Continue with different letters until all the objects have been found.

Conclusion: Have your child say the beginning sound for each object.
