After reading the book, Pam, your child may be hungry for maple syrup on pancakes, waffles or French toast! But first he can write a story in his journal about his favorite breakfast food!
Forest Fun – Lesson 34
“I can write a story.”
Objective: To use inventive writing to write a story. (W.K.1)
Materials: journal, pencil, crayons
Procedures: Talk about how in the story, Pam got all sticky from the tree sap. Explain how maple syrup is made from tree sap. Talk about foods that maple syrup can be used on. For a writing prompt, tell your child to write a sentence about his favorite breakfast food. Remind him that it’s okay to use squiggly lines to represent the words. Mention spacing and a period at the end of his sentence. You will write the real words under his sentence. Then he will illustrate his story to match what he has written. Keep the journal in a safe place for his next story.
Conclusion: Have your child read his story to you again. Talk about his great illustrations and tell him how much you enjoyed his story!
