In this lesson, your child will practice writing letter o. You can use any kind of tactile writing but I chose oatmeal since it begins with o.

Forest Fun – Lesson 43

“I can write letter o.”

Objective: To write letter o. (L.K.1)

Materials: plate, dry oats

Procedures: Spread a layer of dry oats on a plate. Hold up the letter o card. Model how to form letter o by starting at the top and moving counter-clockwise. Remind your child that o is a vowel and can make several sounds such as the long o in oats and the short ŏ in ostrich, which she will use for now. Your child will use her index finger to form the letter o in the oats while reciting, “o says /ŏ/, o says /ŏ/.” She will “erase” the o and practice forming it several times. Guide your child if necessary to be sure she is forming letter o using the correct motion.

Conclusion: Ask your child to name letter o and the /ŏ/ sound again. Then enjoy a snack of oatmeal!
