Children love to play hide and seek games. Here is a cute phonics game to along with the Half-Pint book, I Sat.
Forest Fun – Lesson 47
“I can name letter sounds.”
Objective: To identify letters and the letter sounds. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)
Materials: house cut-outs, small clipart mouse
Procedures: Make house shapes from construction paper and write a letter on each one. Make a mouse that is small enough to hide behind a house. Ask your child to cover his eyes while you hide the mouse. Then ask him to uncover his eyes. You will chant: “Tell me, tell me, little mouse. What letter is on your house?” Your child will guess a letter and see if the mouse is hiding there. He will continue guessing until the mouse is found. Hide the mouse again and the game continues.
Conclusion: Play again by having your child say the sound instead of the letter name. Then let your child hide the mouse for you to guess!
