Forest Fun – Lesson 5
“I can name letter m and the /m/ sound.”
Objective: To identify letter m and the /m/ sound. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)
Materials: letter m sandpaper card, model magic
Procedures: Display the letter m sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter m. The sound of m is /m/.” (For a visual reminder, your child can rub his belly while saying “mmmm”.) Model how letter m is formed. Have your child trace letter m on the sandpaper card using his index finger. While tracing, he will repeat, “m says /m/, m says /m/.” Give your child a packet of model magic. Show him how to roll the model magic into a long snake and how to form letter m.
Conclusion: Ask your child to identify letter m and the /m/ sound.
