It’s writing time again! Today we will focus on descriptive words. What better way than to describe popcorn after reading the story, Pop!
Forest Fun – Lesson 52
“I can write a story.”
Objective: To use inventive writing to write a story. (W.K.1)
Materials: journal, pencil, crayons
Procedures: Talk about describing words that involve using our five senses. Help your child list words that describe popcorn, such as white, crunchy, salty, noisy, buttery, or how good popcorn smells. For a writing prompt, ask your child to write a sentence to describe popcorn. If your child is ready, she may start using letters to represent sounds in words such as pc for popcorn. Encourage spacing and remind her to place a period at the end of her sentence. You will write the real words under her sentence. Then she will illustrate her story to match what she has written. Keep the journal in a safe place for her next story.
Conclusion: Have your child read her story to you again. Talk about the fun illustrations and how her story makes you hungry for popcorn!
