Our first lesson for Set 5 is learning letter Jj. This lesson will involve some physical activity which children need and enjoy!
Jumping Jungle – Lesson 1
“I can identify letter j and the /j/ sound.
Objective: To identify letter j and the /j/ sound. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)
Materials: letter j sandpaper card, colored notecards, marker
Procedures: Display the letter j sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter j. The sound of j is /j/.” (Be careful to say only the /j/ sound without adding “uh” to it.) Model how j is formed. Have your child trace j on the sandpaper card using his index finger. While tracing, have your child repeat, “j says /j/, j says /j/.” Draw j on notecards and place them in a trail. Your child will follow the trail by jumping on the cards. Make the trail end in the kitchen where a snack of jello jigglers and juice is waiting!
Conclusion: Ask your child to identify j and the /j/ sound.
