Writing sight words in sand (or any tactile material) is a good way to learn new sight words and to practice old ones.
Jumping Jungle – Lesson 12
“I can read sight words! (we, will, me)”
Objective: To identify sight words: we, will, me. (RF.K.3)
Materials: Sight word cards, sand tray.
Procedures: Remind your child that some words are called sight words or high-frequency words. Some of the sight words are easy to decode but often they are not decodable. So it is best to learn these words from memory based upon how they look. Sight words appear frequently in text. So in order to read fluently, these words should be practiced and memorized. Using word cards, teach your child to memorize the sight words: we, will, me. Have your child copy the words in a tray of sand while saying them.
Conclusion: Your child will read the three sight words on the word cards.
