Jumping Jungle – Lesson 2

“I can identify letter l and the /l/ sound.”

Objective: To identify letter l and the /l/ sound. (RF.K.1, RF.K.3)

Materials: letter l sandpaper card, legos, lego mat

Procedures: Display the letter l sandpaper card. Say, “This is letter l. The sound of l is /l/.” (Be careful to say only the /l/ sound without adding “uh” to it.) Model how she will stick out her tongue a little for the /l/ sound. Model how l is formed. Have your child trace letter l on the sandpaper card using his index finger. While tracing, have your child repeat, “l says /l/, l says /l/.” Give your child a basket of legos and a lego mat. Have your child make L and l with the legos.

Conclusion: Ask your child to identify l and the /l/. Then enjoy playing with the legos together!
