Here is a fun and edible phonemic awareness activity to use anytime during our jungle themes! I found these cute animal cookies at a dollar store.
Jumping Jungle – Lesson 20
“I can hear if a sound comes at the beginning, the middle or the end of a word.”
Objective: To isolate individual phonemes in cvc words. (RF.K.2)
Materials: notecard, red, blue and green markers, animal cookies
Procedures: Draw three lines in a row on a notecard, red, blue and green. Say a word such as bin. Then say a sound /ĭ/. Your child will place an animal cookie on the blue line because /ĭ/ is in the middle of the word. Then say /n/ and he will move his animal to the green line and so on.
Conclusion: Let your child be the teacher while you move the animal cracker. Then enjoy a snack of animal cookies and milk together!
