This was one of my favorite lessons while teaching kindergarten because my students loved getting sprayed by the elephant! Such a simple idea can make reviewing sight words so exciting!
Jungle Safari – Lesson 13
“I can read sight words.”
Objective: To read sight words. (RF.K.3)
Materials: brown construction paper, scissors, marker, spray bottle, water, small stuffed elephant, rubber band
Procedures: Make peanut shaped cut-outs out of brown construction paper. Write a sight word on each. Spread out the peanuts on the floor or on the ground outside. Fill a spray bottle with water and attach a small stuffed elephant to the nozzle with a rubber band. Say a sight word. Your child must find the peanut with that sight word. For extra giggles, let the elephant give your child a quick squirt from time to time while he is looking for a peanut!
Conclusion: Have your child read each peanut sight word again and then enjoy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch!
