Today is our first lesson for Set 8 Medieval Magic. Your child is sure to enjoy this “magical” tactile writing lesson to learn about “ing”.
Medieval Magic – Lesson 1
“I can decode ‘ing’.”
Objective: To decode “ing”. (RF.K.2)
Materials: index cards, marker, colored sugar crystals, foil, tray
Procedures: Create a “magic dust” tactile tray with colored sugar crystals used for decorating cookies and cakes. Cover a tray with foil and spread a thin layer of the sugar crystals on it. Write “ing’ on an index card. Tell your child she is going to learn a new word family which can also be used as a word ending. Display the card that says “ing.” Tell her these letters say /ing/. Give examples of words containing “ing”. Have your child trace the letters with her index finger while saying “ i…n…g…says /ing/. Your child will spell “ing” words in the magic dust! (ring, sing, king, ding, ping, wing,)
Conclusion: Ask your child to decode “ing” and to read several words that contain “ing.”
