Medieval Magic – Lesson 18
I can read cvc words.
Objective: To read cvc words. (RF.K.2)
Materials: blue poster board, marker, toy frogs, lily pad cut-outs, princess clipart
Procedures: Teach your child the /sl/ blend. Prepare a board game to practice decoding words with blends and digraphs (sl, st, fr, sh). Cut the poster board into a pond shape. Cut out several lily pad shapes and write a decodable word on each. On some of the lily pads, write “Go Back 2”, “Go Back 1”, etc. Glue the lily pads on the pond to form a trail. Glue a princess at the end. You and your child will take turns rolling the dice and moving your frog. Your child will read each word upon which the frogs land. The frog who reaches the princess first, wins the game!
Conclusion: Have your child read each word again and write five of the words on lined paper.
