Locating sounds within words can be very yummy when you play, “Eat the Sound!”
Medieval Magic – Lesson 9
I can identify where sounds are located within words.
Objective: To identify where sounds are located within a word. (RF.K.2)
Materials: cupcake liner, small trail mix items such as cereal, m & m’s, fish crackers, etc.
Procedures: Give your child a cupcake liner of trail mix and a napkin. Say a word such as ‘frog’. Ask your child to place a trail mix item on his napkin to represent each sound in the word ‘frog’. He will place four items in a row. Tell him to eat the /r/. He will eat the second item. Then tell him to eat the /g/ and he will eat the last item. Continue until all the sounds have been eaten. Then play again using different words.
Conclusion: Have your child think of words for you to “eat the sounds.” Then enjoy eating trail mix together.
