Outer Space – Lesson 17

“I can make new words by changing one letter.”

Objective: To make new words by changing one letter. (RF.K.2)

Materials: UFO workmat, letter tiles, crayons

Procedures: Draw a large UFO shape on paper with a row of three boxes in the middle. Ask your child to spell a word such as “lit” by placing a plastic letter in each of the boxes. Then say, “Change lit to hit”. She will replace l with h. Next, ask her to change “hit to hid”. She will change the last letter. Continue the game with other changes such as “hid to had, had to bad, bad to bag, bag to bug, etc.”

Conclusion: Your child may color or decorate the UFO.
