Outer Space – Lesson 18
“I can read words that contain sn, fr, and sh.”
Objective: To read words with familiar blends and digraphs. (RF.K.2)
Materials: index cards, marker, plastic headband, pipe cleaners, Styrofoam balls
Procedures: Write decodable words on the index cards and place them at the end of the room or outside at the end of the yard. Create a headband for the “alien.” Your child will stand at the opposite end of the room or yard. You will be the alien by wearing the headband and you will stand in the middle of the room. You will say a word. Your child will run past you to find the word as you try to tag her. If you tag her, you get a point. If not, she gets a point. She also gets a bonus point for finding the correct word. Whoever has the most points wins the game!
Conclusion: Play again and let your child be the alien in the middle. Then have your child write the words.
