Decoding words is extra fun with a rocket pointer and a wipe-off board!
Outer Space – Lesson 6
“I can blend sounds to read words.”
Objective: To decode words. (RF.K.2)
Materials: wipe-off, marker, eraser rocket clipart, craft stick, glue
Procedures: Create a “pointer” by gluing a small rocket to a craft stick. Write a decodable word such as “snap” on a wipe-off board. Your child will use the rocket to touch each letter while saying the sound. Then he will go back and quickly move the rocket across the letters in one sweep while he says the word. Erase the word and write another decodable word from this set of books.
Conclusion: Ask your child to write words from the books for you to decode using the rocket.
