For the first lesson of Pioneer Days, your child will write the new sight words in cornmeal, the pioneers’ main food.

Pioneer Days – Lesson 1

I can read sight words:  too, that, us

Objective: To read sight words: too, that, us. (RF.K.3)

Materials: tray, cornmeal, sight word cards

Procedures: Place a thin layer of cornmeal (the pioneers’ main food) on a tray. Tell your child she is going to learn three new sight words. Display the sight word “too” and read it to your child. Have your child trace “too” with her finger. Then she will copy the word by writing it in the sand, saying each letter and then the word. Repeat several times and then do the same exercise with the other two words.

Conclusion: Have your child read the three new sight words again and use them in a sentence.
