Under the Sea – Lesson 2 – Sight Words

Writing in sand helps children remember skills better than just writing on paper. DIY sand trays save you money, too!

Under the Sea – Lesson 2

I can read sight words.

Objective: To read sight words: then, was, when, help. (RF.K.3)

Materials: sight word cards, sand, tray

Procedures: Place a thin layer of sand on a tray. Tell your child she is going to learn four new sight words. Display the sight word ‘then’ and read it to your child. Have your child trace ‘then’ with her finger. Then she will copy the word by writing it in the sand, saying each letter and then the word. Repeat several times and then do the same exercise with the rest of the new words.

Conclusion: Your child will read the words again. Then she will find these new words in printed materials such as magazines, newspapers or books.
