Under the Sea – Lesson 22

 I can decode real and nonsense words.

Objective: To decode real and nonsense words. (RF.K.2)

Materials: clear plastic jar, blue food coloring, sea shells, marker, small, plastic ocean animals.

Procedures: Fill a jar plastic jar with water and add a few drops of blue food coloring. Write real and nonsense words on the shells. Place the shells in the bottle. Add ocean animals, glitter, etc. to make a sensory jar. Your child will slowly turn the jar and read any words that she sees, identifying them as real or nonsense.

Conclusion: Dictate real and nonsense words for your child to spell on a dry-erase board.
