Opening paper clam shells is a fun way to practice reading CVC words.

Under the Sea – Lesson 5
I can read cvc words.
Objective: To read cvc words. (RF.K.2)
Materials: construction paper, markers, scissors, clipart
Procedures: Fold construction paper in half. On the fold, draw clam shapes and cut them out. On the outside of each clam, write a decodable word. On the inside of the shell, glue a clipart picture of the word. Your child will read the word and then open the shell to see if the picture matches the word he read.
Conclusion: Ask your child to read the words again and to write them on a lined wipe-off board.Under the Sea –
