Tactile writing is very effective in helping children to learn correct letter formation and numerous phonics skills because it involves the sense of touch in a variety of textures. In the lesson plans to follow, your child will be writing in sand, cornmeal, rice, sugar, dry oats, frosting, yogurt, chocolate syrup, maple syrup, shaving cream, applesauce, pudding and more! Not only are these tactile experiences effective, but they also put the FUN in writing!

Tomorrow I will begin posting a lesson plan each day to teach your child how to read in a systematic, sequential and cumulative way. Each lesson is multi-sensory so instead of using a workbook, you will need to gather and prepare some materials. However, I think you will find the extra effort is worth the trouble as you see your child excited about learning to read! So stay tuned for a very exciting adventure!
